In a paper released in the Lancet, a team of researchers identified seven structural problems in India’s healthcare system. These include a weak primary health care sector, unequally distributed skilled human resources, a large unregulated private sector, low public spending on health, fragmented health information systems, irrational use and spiralling cost of drugs and weak governance and accountability. This paper was led by Vikram Patel, a professor at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
